Soap Opera at the Prestigious Historic Villa Riviera Condominiums?Soap Opera at the Prestigious Historic Villa Riviera Condominiums?LONG BEACH SOAP OPERA!
Hey Dynasty and Dallas don't have anything going on that we can't compete with here in Long Beach!
Located at the edge of Downtown Long Beach this stunning icon of Long Beach is reported to be having difficulties with it's residents due to bitterly opposing views on just about everything related to the building. Reports state that health and fire inspectors and police have had to intervene on several occasions. WOW, a real live soap opera, right here in Long Beach. Damn they even called the police demanding a mental-health exam on one of the owners and a RIP message was placed on on a former board member's door!
Move over Krystal and Alexis - We've got Game!

Comment from: Monika [Visitor] LOL...A true soap opera! You'll have to post updates for us all. Comment from: Ann Cummings [Visitor] Laurie - that will certainly be an interesting situation to watch unfold. I hope it all works out for those who own condos in that beautiful building! Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] LOL...Yep a real live soap opera! I don't even want to get into the disclosure issues going forward!!! Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Ann, I think that some of those owners have temporarily lost their marbles and the rest are wishing for a more normal existance once again. My wish for them is a quick and complete resolution to all of the issues. Comment from: Kevin Tomlinson [Visitor] Laurie, BTW the building is beautiful. Comment from: Kevin Tomlinson [Visitor] I wanna see Krystal b*tch-slap Alexis and throw her in the pool. Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] LOL.....Kevin I can always rely on you for a side splitting giggle! Comment from: Colleen Kulikowski [Visitor] What a shame to have happen to such a beautiful building. Are there a lot of units for sale in the building at this time? Comment from: Carole Cohen [Visitor] Wow, nothing gets people riled up like issues about their homes! Keep us posted Laurie! Comment from: Ines [Visitor] Sounds like Long Beach is getting closer to our reality in my part of the country. Every other condo building has either "the board member from hell" or just plain old loving "nut cases" Comment from: Chantal [Visitor] Drama aside, what a stunning looking building! Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Colleen, This building will turn out just fine, nobody is going to let anything bad happen to this historic landmark, it's the human element that is the problem. There are currently 4 units active and 2 pending in the building.
Carole, Apparently :), but it makes for great entertainment! Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Ines, I have witnessed quite a few Boards imploding here in the last few years as well. Perhaps years ago people bought condos with the long term in mind and in more recent years purchased with a shorter plan. The market downturn has blown many peoples plans to smithereens, I think that may be playing into a lot of the Board problems.
Chantal, Yes, it is stunning. Your eye is drawn to it from everywhere in Long Beach. The entrance and interior can only be described as elegant. Comment from: Elaine Reese [Visitor] That's a very intriging, and beautiful building. Too bad about the fighting residents. Comment from: Kevin Tomlinson [Visitor] Wow, Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Elaine, It is a lovely building and yes it really is too bad about the fighting residents, they could get so much more accomplished if they got their collective act together.
Kevin, :) I luvs u 2!
Comment from: Cyndee Haydon [Visitor] Laurie - loved the title and always up for a good soap opera. lol Keep us posted! It amazing how Condo Associations and Home Owners Associations can turn into little fifedoms with all the drama Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Hi Cyndee, While this situation isn't funny at all, there is sooooooo much drama that it really reminds me of a soap opera, lol... It's true that Board members often develop a sense of proprietorship and forget they are in a service roll and are elected by and represent ALL of the owners. I wonder how many Board members on HOA's even know that they need to have insurance. Along the way I have asked a few if they were insured personally for their tenure. They just gave me that blank look and said "Huh?"! It's a 'Don't Rain on MY Parade" attitude that will spell failure every time. Comment from: Ann Cummings [Visitor] Laurie - that's a good point about the insurance as a Board Member. I bet many either no nothing about that kind of insurance. And it is really sad that so many seem to forget what their REAL role is as a Board member - representing ALL unit owners. It's really too bad when something like that happens, as it hurts everyone in those buildings. Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Ann, I've seen a few Board's in distress, it always comes down to communication and trust. When either breaks down it is the beginning of the end. I found a great article by Beth Grimm on California Condo and HOA Law: http://www.communityassociations.net/cacondoguru/archives/2005/09/board_member_li.html It's a very informative read, I recommend it to anybody on a Board or thinking about volunteering for a Board position.
Comment from: Kaye Thomas [Visitor] I have always loved this building.. it should be on Park Ave in New York.. Maybe one of these days when you have a moment we could do a quick tour.. Comment from: Laurie Manny [Visitor] Hi Kaye, This building would even stand out on Park Avenue it is so lovely. I would love to do a tour with you.
