Bixby Village Golf Course, Bixby Village Course

The
9-hole ˜Bixby Village course at the Bixby Village Golf Course facility
in Long Beach, California features 1,567 yards of golf from the longest
tees for a par of 29. The course rating is 57.5 and it has a slope
rating of 86. Designed by Ron Fream, the Bixby Village golf course
opened in 1980.

Recreation Park South Golf Course 18-Hole

This Municipal 18 hole Golf Course with over 6,317 yards with a par of 72. Billy Bell-designed layout is one of the oldest courses in Southern California.

Located
among beautiful rolling hills, Recreation Park was constructed in 1917
and was originally known as Virginia Country Club. This very private
club was opened to the public in 1931 and has since been known by its
current name. Recreation Park, designated as one of the busiest golf
courses in the nation, provides a night lighted driving range, practice
greens, pro shop, full service restaurant and banquet facilities for up
to 150 people.

previous venue of the Queen Mary Open, this facility has now been
selected as the site of the prestigious Long Beach Open. A magnificent
18-hole layout, El Dorado can truly be called a ˜players course, due to

exceptionally enjoyable for the beginner. This fully lighted course
also boasts of its excellent practice range, full size chipping and
putting greens, full service restaurant and a professionally staffed
pro shop.

California Heights Cancels 2008 Annual Home and Garden Tour - Long Beach California

The California Heights Historic District has decided to cancel this years 12th annual Home and Garden Show and postpone it until October 2009. 

Few are unaffected by the events leading to the current condition of our economy, this wonderful event is no exception.  Homeowners have postponed projects that would otherwise have been completed before placing their homes on the tour.  Attendees who would normally take the tour for improvement and restoration ideas are placing home improvements on hold and are finding themselves on restricted budgets due to inflating gas and food costs as well as, in some cases, large overhead costs due to increased mortgage payments, none of which bode well for anticipated attendance. 

The event has traditionally provided funds for projects in and around the California Heights Historic District and will be sorely missed.

Life and Fun on the Naples Italianesque Canals

Another glorious day in Long Beach California.  Does this ever get boring?  Not!  Today I showed duplexes in Belmont Shore and Seal Beach, dropped my client off and cruised around Naples Island taking pictures on the canals. 

 

I met 2 lovely young ladies, Sophia and Sylvia, who were sunning themselves on one of the bridges.  They were kind enough to agree to let me photograph their sunny faces, so cute!  Imagine my surprise when they asked me “Do you want to see us jump off of the bridge?”  Well, they didn’t wait for an answer, they just went ahead and jumped off of the bridge!  Then dragged themselves out of the canal at a convenient dock. 

 

The 2 adorable little river rats were having a ball.  I cracked up laughing.  Just had to get pictures of this to share. 2 little hams, didn’t mind, they wanted to make sure I got them mid air.  So, here they are, mid-air…  They are looking forward to seeing their pictures here.  Girls I hope you like them. 

 

Apparently the girls are well known for their antics as most of the neighbors are used to seeing them do this often. 

 

There were people swimming and kayaking below and boats passing through, I was very relieved to notice the girls taking extra precautions to make certain the coast was cleared for a safe landing. 

It looked like so much fun, if I were still a kid, I’d have jumped in with them, lol…

Sunday Afternoon in Belmont Shore

Today was the most gorgeous day here in Long Beach.  Is it any wonder why we all love it here so much?  I was out showing homes today to a new buyer, when we were through I drove into Belmont Shore and up Bayshore along the canal.  It was about 5:30 in the afternoon and many people were enjoying the beach.  Adults and children alike were in the water swimming, paddling around on boogie boards, and kayaking, others were relaxing on the sand.  Small boats were slowly making their way down the canal…….it was perfection.  It is what Long Beach is all about. 

 

I parked the car, grabbed both cameras and walked onto the bridge above the canal.  The tide was high, several boats that had been out for the day weren’t able to make it back under the bridge to return home were turning around to travel another route home.  People were out on the water having fun, the sun was glistening and the water was an incredible azure blue, as was the sky.  Today was a gorgeous day here in Long Beach.

 

In the background music could be heard, a 3 piece band had set up on the end of one of the docks on the other side of the bridge.  Nice background for the end to a perfect day, thanks for adding a beat to it. 

 

Residents of Belmont Shore and Naples Island were walking to the beach with sand chairs tucked under their arms planning on finishing their day off relaxing on the sand while the sun sank in our sky.  What a great way to end the day and a wonderful weekend.
