Long Beach Homes - Are YOU Safe

Are You Safe in Your Own Home?

Your home is your safe haven from the world.  At least it is supposed to be.  What if it isn't?  What if anybody could get in at anytime?  Would you still feel safe?  My Dad sent me an email yesterday with a link to a news video about bump keys.  To say that it was enlightening would be a major understatement.

Have you heard about Bump Keys yet?  Apparently they can be purchased online for about $2.00 each and can be used to open almost any lock in seconds. I urge your to watch this video. You may want to upgrade the locks on your Long Beach Homes after watching it.

How does this work? Check out this short video as well.

Protect yourself and your family.  Invest in better locks.

Laurie - I had seen this video some time ago, but forgot about it. It is scary indeed to think that the one place where we all should feel safe can be so easily shattered.

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

Missy, That was my thought also, which is why I put up the article on it.  Everybody should be aware of this and have the opportunity to protect their homes.

Laurie,

Thanks for making this known amongst the Realtor community. No doubt, the crooks already know this. Your post will help us to alert our clients to the need for "bump proof" locks.

BTW - I used to live in Huntington Beach, and worked at the McDonnell Douglas operation next to the Long Beach airport. Using that name will give you an idea how long ago that was!

This "technology" has been around for at least two years..So far I haven't seen a rash of the bad guys using it.. but it's probably only amatter of time..

Nothing new. Believing in locks and keys is only dream. Criminals are able to open most of the standard locks within seconds, with bumb key or without it. If you want to feel protected in your house, you have to make complex sacurity precautions, from chimney to cellar. I am dealing in calm Toronto neighbourhoods and we don't have much problems with criminality here, however I keep telling my clients, that best protection is having good neighbours.

Vance, I just thought everybody needed to know.  It's just too easy.  How long have you been gone from SoCal now?

Kaye, I think I heard that this technology has been around for a lot longer than that even.  Everybody had the right to know.  Quite frankly I am surprised the media doesn't warn people about this on a regular basis.

Julie, Good neighbors are a charm, for sure.

There is something to be said here for the nature of our society.  Given that these keys have been available for many years, few homes are broken into.  Maybe as a society we aren't so bad after all.  Or, maybe the criminals have a healthy paranoia about being shot.  Lots of gun owners out there.

Great info, even if I'd rather not think about the possibilities.
