HOLLYWOOD LOVES LONG BEACH

American Pie, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Red Dragon, Donnie Darko and Not A Teen Movie were all filmed in Long Beach California.

This lovely ’American Pie’ Manse located at 4153 Cedar Drive, Long Beach, California was home to ‘Jim’ and his family.  It is the same house where Jim broadcast Nadia over the Internet while the entire school and neighborhood watched.  This is a beautiful community that has very large homes and mansions on extra large lots with decadently wide-tree lined streets, many backing to the 18 hole  Virginia Golf Course.  The Virginia Country Club community, lined with highly desirable estates, is adjacent to Bixby Knolls and the fabulous Historic District of California Heights, all of which contain extremely sought after properties.  These areas are about 2 miles inland from the beach. Michelles (When I was at Bandcamp) American Pie Home is located at 3925 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, California, about a block from ˜Jims home and is another Virginia Country Club beauty.  Michelle, (Alyson Hannigan) was also ˜Willow on the ˜Buffy the Vampire television series. 

American Pie 2 featured 4165 Country Club Drive, Long Beach, California.  A tired manse used as ˜The Painters House, again in the the Virginia Country Club area, which has since had an exterior renovation. 

The Davies Bridge passes over one of the main channels of Alamitos Bay on E. Second Street in Long Beach California, connecting Naples Island back with the Long Beach mainland.  It is here that the American Pie 2 boys are depicted going on vacation to the lake in the fictional Grand Harbor, Michigan.  They actually took the short cruise, across Alamitos Bay, through the Orange Curtain as we call it here (the Orange County Line) to the wonderful beach town of Seal Beach, California where they had a grand old time on Main Street in Seal Beach.  Seal beach is home to multi-million dollar homes on the sand, many lovely beach cottages and a multitude of very nice 55+ condominium complexes that are senior friendly and a short walk to the beach.  Seal Beach is an upscale and bohemian beach community.

Millikan High School, located at 2800 Snowden Avenue, Long Beach, California, was the ˜East Great Falls High, Millikan High was used for the outdoor school scenes.  Long Beach Polytechnic High School at 1600 Atlantic Avenue was the film spot of choice for the indoor high school scenes. Poly High, as we call it here.  Cameron Diaz attended Poly High.  In 2005, Sports Illustrated Magazine named the districts Poly High School the ‘Sports School of the Century.’  Poly has sent more football players to the NFL than any other U.S. high school and has won a grammy award for music.  Famous alumni include rappers Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G, singer Lupillo Rivera, tennis player Billie Jean King, actresses Tiffani Thiessen and Cameron Diaz, opera singer Marilyn Horne and politician Harlan Hagen.  Famous baseball players from Poly include Chase Utley, Milton Bradley, Randy Moffitt, Chris Gwynn and Tony Gwynn.  Famous football players from Poly include Carl Weathers, Kareem Kelly, Mark Carrier (DB), Darnell Bing, Marcedes Lewis, Manuel Wright, Hershel Dennis, Winston Justice, Marques Anderson, Samie Parker, Willie McGinest, Omar Stoutmire, Gene Washington, Tony Hill, Stephone Paige, Leonard Russell, Marquez Pope, Brandon Whiting, Dennis Price, Chuckie Miller, David Howard, Desean Jackson,Earl McCullouch,and Don Sasa.
